Hurtigruten collection - Arctic Circle

Featuring two of Norway’s most iconic railway journeys and the magnificent journey northwards, across the Arctic Circle, onboard a Hurtigruten expedition

This fantastic rail and specialist cruising holiday begins in Oslo, Norway’s capital city. You will find an array of interesting attractions including Vigeland Sculpture Park, the largest sculpture park in the world by a single artist, home to a jaw-dropping 227 pieces by Norwegian sculptor Gustav Vigeland.

From Oslo you will cross the great Hardangervidda Plateau by train to the Hanseatic city of Bergen on the beautiful west coast of Norway. Bergen is the gateway to the country’s famous fjords and although the city has expanded over the years from its origins as a trading and fishing port, it retains the quaint and charming wharf buildings that have been granted UNESCO World Heritage status.

From here Hurtigruten carries you northwards via the cities of Ålesund and Trondheim, then you will cross the Arctic Circle to the magical Lofoten Islands, before reaching the ‘Arctic Capital’ of Tromsø and around the majestic North Cape to Kirkenes which sits alongside the border with Russia. At Kirkenes you will have a night to remember as you swap the ship for a unique overnight experience in your very own Snow Room, these are rooms expertly crafted entirely of ice and snow.

This truly is an amazing journey that travels the width and length of Norway. Using both trains and expedition ship, it truly allows you to take in the magnificent coastal scenery with ease and comfort. Plus, travelling so far north maximises your chance of seeing the sensational Northern Lights.
