An exploration of Sweden’s Arctic wilderness which includes two of the world’s most unique hotels.
Swedish Lapland is already well known for its famous ICEHOTEL which offers a unique opportunity to chill out (forgive the pun!), however this holiday includes the region’s other famous overnight experience - a Treehotel with designer, heated, Tree Rooms which are located in the forest and built to work with, and celebrate, nature.
At the Treehotel you’ll find a range of tree rooms designed by world-class architects with a passion for innovation and the environment. Set amongst undisturbed nature, attached to living, growing trees!
Day 1 - Sweden, Gammelstad and the Treehotel
Fly from the UK to Luleå via Stockholm. Met on arrival for your guided transfer to Harads (duration approximately 60 minutes). During your transfer your driver/guide will provide you with an insight into local history, culture and nature and a hot/cold drink and local snacks are included. Your guided transfer also visits the World Heritage Site of Gammelstad Church Town en route.
On arrival in Harads you will check-in to your room at Britta’s Pensjonat with time to relax before dinner.

Day 2 - Experience Sami Culture
For thousands of years the Sámi people have raised and herded their reindeer in this region. Today you have a guided tour to the village of Flakaberg, approximately 80 kms from Harads, and the home of Lars Eriksson and his family. Lars will show you his reindeer pastures and talk about the Sámi culture and way of life. In his cabin you will be served a typical Sámi lunch and before returning to Harads you will make a stop at the Arctic Circle Monument - a great place for a selfie!
Tonight you will again have dinner in the restaurant at Britta’s Pensjonat, however, this time you will retire to the forest and your chosen Tree Room for your unique overnight stay amongst the trees and nature. Surprisingly civilised and very, warm and cosy.

Day 3 - Train across the Arctic Circle to the Icehotel
Awake to the sound of silence, taking a few moments to relish the comfort of your Treeroom before making your way through the trees to Britta’s for breakfast. Transfer from Harads to Boden where you will take the express train northwards, across the Arctic Circle, to Kiruna. The train is very comfortable and you will find yourself sharing the carriage with a mixture of local skiiers and those travelling to the Arctic for a variety of winter wonderland experiences - just like yourself!
Met on arrival and transferred to Jukkasjärvi and ICEHOTEL resort. Check-in to your cool room at the front desk of the service building. You will have access to your room from 1800 so in the meantime you are free to relax in the resort’s main building. How about a lovely dinner in one of ICEHOTEL’s two restaurants, enjoy a drink in the bar and, if you want to start acclimatising in preparation for your unique overnight why not visit the ICEBAR for a real drink on the rocks?
1 night JUKKASJÄRVI - Icehotel, Ice Room (B)
Day 4 - Jukkasjärvi
At 0730 you will be woken up to a cup of hot lingonberry juice. This is your signal to slowly get up and make your way to the showers and sauna - from one extreme to the other! Once you are thoroughly warm and dressed a delicious buffet breakfast is waiting for you. The remainder of your stay is in warm accommodation and we have an enticing collection of pre-bookable optional activities available to enhance your winter experience. Before the Treehotel was even thought about there was Britta’s Guesthouse. Owned by Britta and Kent, the pensjonat is delightfully charming and as unique as a guesthouse as the Treehotel is as a treehouse. Inspired by the period stretching from the 30s to the 50s, the pensjonat offers a homely atmosphere and excellent food. Not all rooms are en-suite but showers and WCs are just in the corridor and add to the charm.
An amazing collection of tree house rooms, all with WC and washbasin - showers in the Tree Sauna close by! Each one is an individual design based on ecological principles and designed by internationally renowned architects. Price based on either the Birds Nest, Cabin, Blue Cone or UFO, supplement for the Mirrorcube and their latest design - the 7th Room designed by famed architectural firm Snøhetta. Britta's Pensjonat is close by which has a restaurant, sauna and relaxation area and is also where breakfast is served. Staying in one of these rooms really is a once in a liftetime opportunity.
ICEHOTEL - Jukkasjärvi
The ICEHOTEL at Jukkasjärvi was the first hotel of its kind and and is built of ice and snow with designs inspired by the local nature. There is, of course, an Ice Bar and lounge where you can mingle with other guests sipping colourful cocktails from glasses made of ice. There is, however, a warmer option available, sitting in the warm building connected to the ICEHOTEL around a crackling fire until it is time for bed. A hot drink, breakfast and sauna are included the following morning.
Ice Room – our standard rooms where you sleep on a regular mattress on a bed built of snow and ice with a selection of unique artwork decorating the room.
Art Suite – larger than an Ice Room with additional furniture and ice art in the shape of fantastic design and wonderful sculptures.
ICEHOTEL 365 is a specially designed 2200 m² ice art hall, which houses suites, a bar, sculpture gallery and event hall – open 365 days of the year and run on solar power from the Midnight Sun.
Working with Swedish architect and sustainability designer Hans Eek, ICEHOTEL 365 combines state-of-the-art architecture and sustainable energy with ice art that draws winter visitors from over 80 countries every year. Jukkasjärvi has near constant daylight between May and July and by making use of solar power panels and sustainable building technology, and a reverse principle to that used in energy-efficient housing to keep the cold out, the hotel is able to offer a winter experience during the summer months too.
Art Suite 365 – these suites are the same standard as those in the Original ICEHOTEL but the difference is that the structure allows for proper doors to the suites. The changing booths are placed either in the ICEHOTEL 365 structure or in a Dressing Room (this will be confirmed at the time).
Deluxe Suite – these luxury suites have a heated ensuite bathroom that will also allow you to store luggage and change in the comfort of your own room.
Kaamos Hotel Room at the ICEHOTEL ***
Warm accommodation at the ICEHOTEL is provided in their Kaamos Hotel Rooms where double rooms are spacious and bright with a contemporary Scandinavian design. The double bed in some rooms can be converted into twin beds (please advise at time of booking). All rooms have TV, phone and kettle. These rooms are located on the ICEHOTEL's resort within easy walking distance of the ICEHOTEL itself and additional resort buildings such as the bar, restaurant etc.
The ICEHOTEL offer a broad selection of outdoor activities to complement your stay. Although excursions are available to book locally we strongly recommend pre-booking to avoid any disappointment due to lack of availability during your stay.

What sort of clothing will I need?
As a rule of thumb for any Arctic winter holiday, we would strongly recommend the layering principal (base, mid, outer) with man-made thermal fibres or wool. In our opinion wool is definitely best, and merino wool is soft and cosy and certainly a good investment. A good, waterproof outdoor jacket is essential, and also over trousers are a bonus if you have them. Wool socks (we wouldn't wear anything else here), perhaps a couple of pairs, and good hiking boots or snow boots are very important. Gloves, scarf, hat and you're raring to go!
If you're doing optional excursions like dog-sledding, snowshoeing, and Aurora hunting activities you will be provided with thermal overalls to ensure you are warm and cosy during extended periods outdoors.
During your stay at the Icehotel warm boots, a snowsuit, mittens and balaclava are included for the duration of your stay.
Do I need to bring any sort of equipment with me?
You don't need to but we would certainly recommend the following:
Are special diets catered for?
Absolutely! Just let us know at the time of booking what your requirements are so that we can inform our suppliers and ensure you are provided with delicious alternatives where appropriate.
What is Icehotel 365?
Basically it is a year round Icehotel! It is a structure with a green turf roof, covered with Arctic mountain flowers and grass before the snow arrives and then covered with snow when the snow falls. The turf roof covers metal sheets, protecting the building insulation which is designed to keep cold air in. The arched inner ceiling has built-in chilling tubes holding a temperature of -5 C. The inner walls are then covered in snow. The whole structure is held up by pillars, but the walls of the rooms are made from snow. As with the original Icehotel a key element is its adornment inside with decorative objects, pillars and sculptures. 25 commissioned artists and architects are responsible for the decoration and design of the suites, bar and gallery. Icehotel 365 means you are now able to enjoy an Icehotel experience all year round.
Is spending an night in the Icehotel suitable for young children?
In our opinion a night in the ICEHOTEL is only suitable for children over the age of 8, and then only if your 8 year old is adventurous and used to outdoor activities. Why? Because children feel the cold more than many adults as they often don't have the...erm...'layers of padding' that adults may have which help to keep them warm. Also, if they need to go to the toilet during the night they will need an adult to get up and go with them as the toilets are located in a separate, warm building, adjacent to the ICEHOTEL; this means two people getting up and getting dressed instead of just one. If you take your children camping, and they absolutely love it, then you have already fought and conquered half the battle, but remember...the average temperature inside the Icehotel is -5°C... If you're not sure then talk to us about it; we all have children and there will be very few questions we haven't already been asked, thought of ourselves or experienced ourselves.
