Countries don't come much more family-friendly than Denmark. This is, after all, the land that gave us Hans Christian Andersen and the LEGO brick! So, why not treat the children (or grandchildren) to a holiday in the magical kingdom of Denmark. Chances are that you will enjoy it even more than they do!
Our fly-drive holiday starts with 3 nights in Copenhagen, where you can visit the Little Mermaid and the wonderful Tivoli Gardens, take a trip on a replica Viking Ship at nearby Roskilde or even drive across ‘The Bridge’ into Sweden. Your holiday then continues as you drive across Denmark and spend 4 nights on the mainland peninsular of Jutland, where you are within easy reach of the original LEGOLAND, and a host of other attractions to please all ages. You spend the next 4 nights in a cosy farmhouse with half-board included, offering excellent value for money.
So come and enjoy a real family holiday in Denmark, and create some magical memories to last a lifetime.
Arrive Copenhagen from the UK. Collect hire-car at the airport and drive to your hotel, where parking is available behind the hotel.
3 nights COPENHAGEN - Tivoli Hotel (3 star plus)
Days 2 & 3
At leisure in Copenhagen. Canal-boat tours offer an enjoyable way to see the sights, and there are also hop-on hop-off bus tours that stop close to your hotel. Within a few minutes walk are the wonderful Tivoli Gardens with cafes, restaurants, entertainment and amusements. At night Tivoli become a positive fairyland when all the lights come on! You will find a wide variety of museums and other attractions in Copenhagen, while within a 40-minute drive at Roskilde, you have the the splendid Viking Ship Museum, where you can even take a ride in a replica Viking Ship! Within an hour’s drive to the north you can explore the beautiful countryside of North Sealand and the ‘Danish Riviera’ with some wonderful sandy beaches, quaint fishing villages and some fine castles including Hamlet’s Kronborg Castle at Helsingor. Closer still why not take a drive across ‘The Bridge’ into Sweden? Your hotel has an indoor swimming-pool, playroom and playground, so the children will never be bored.
Today you leave Copenhagen and drive across Denmark, over the impressive Great Belt Bridge to the island of Funen (toll charge about £25). You then proceed across Funen and the shorter Little Belt Bridge (no toll), onto Jutland, the mainland peninsular of Denmark, and thence to your Farmhouse in Sjølund to the south of Kolding (approx. 155 miles). En route you may like to break your journey on Funen at Odense, where you can visit the Hans Christian Andersen Museum and his Childhood Home, or take a slight deviation into the Funen countryside and visit the romantic Egeskov Castle with its beautiful grounds, mazes, motor museum, segway riding and woodland adventure playground.
4 nights SJØLUND - Vejstrupgaard Farmhouse (dinner and breakfast included)
Days 5 - 7
Three days to relax and enjoy life on the farm, or at the Munkebjerg Hotel. The farm can accommodate up to seven families at a time, either in family rooms, or in a double room and a separate room with bunk-beds for the children. Though not en-suite, each family has its own bathroom. Your hosts, Hanna and Poul Thomsen have been welcoming guests for many years, and tasty farmhouse cooking has always been a highlight of holidays here. The Munkebjerg Hotel, which is situated in lovely beech-woods overlooking the Vejlefjord also offers good facilities for families, including an indoor swimming-pool and playroom. Within an hour’s drive of either you can visit the original Legoland at Billund, which will surely be a ‘must’. Also about an hour away is Ribe, Denmark’s oldest town, with some fine Viking attractions. From Ribe you can take a tractor bus out to the island of Mando in the Wadden Sea National Park. At a similar distance is Silkeborg in the Danish Lake District where you will find the 2,000 year old Tollund Man in the Silkeborg Museum, and where you can enjoy boat-trips on the lake, or hire canoes and explore at your own pace. Also near Silkeborg is ‘Labyrinthium’ – a theme park full of mazes, an Aqua Water Park and the Givskud Wildlife Park. There are sandy beaches within a few minutes drive of both the farm and the hotel.

Family Fun in Denmark
The following are our suggestions for what you can do during your stay which will be appreciated and enjoyed by adults and children alike.
Visit the Original LEGOLAND at Billund in Denmark - alongside the LEGO factory where it all began?
Marvel at the detail in the amazing modesl built from millions of ordinary LEGO bricks and enjoy a variety of fun rides to suit all ages. The name LEGO is a contraction of the Danish words leg godt, meaning to play well. We hope you do! Visit www.legoland.dk for more information.
Visit wonderful Tivoli Gardens
Tivoli is a lovely combination of amusement rides, flower gardens, food pavilions and open-air stage shows. As night falls and the many thousands of lights come on, Tivoli is transformed into a positive fairyland. Visit www.tivoli.dk for more information
Viking Ship Museum at Roskilde
A fascinating museum where it is easy to lose yourself for a couple of hours. Children will love taking a ride on the replica Viking ship! Visit www.vikingeskibsmuseet.dk for more information.
Take the Tractor Bus to Mandø Island
Mandø Island is one of the Danish Wadden Sea islands and is connected to the mainland by a 4 kms causeway, only accessible during low tide. Although cars can, carefully, drive out during low tide, the most exciting way to visit the island is by ‘tractor bus’ with its huge tyres. Extensive mudflats and tidal marshes encircle the island providing breeding grounds to multitudes of birds. Click here for more information.
Silkeborg in the Danish Lake District
Easily accessible for a day trip with canoe hire, boat trips and the 2000 year old Tollund Man in the Silkeborg Museum. Also near Silkeborg is 'Labyrinthium', a theme park full of mazes, and the Aqua Aquarium. Click here for more information.
Who is this holiday for?
This holiday is perfect for families. The world-famous LEGOLAND will provide hours of fun and a lifetime of memories for the whole family.
However, when we launched this holiday we were surprised by its popularity among couples travelling together as well. We discovered that there is a demand for farmhouse stays, so this holiday is also perfect for couples who enjoy being close to nature combined with a stay in the city.
