Combine two countries into one holiday, dedicated to giving you a unique and memorable experience. This exciting holiday starts in Swedish Lapland where you'll spend a unique night in the Icehotel followed by a comfortable and cosy sleep in warm accomodation. The Icehotel is the world’s first ice hotel, and has expanded over the years to include an ice bar, church and an array of elaborate sculptures every year when the hotel is built from scratch.
You will then embark upon a train journey, crossing the Norwegian border to Narvik for an overnight before continuing to Tromsø, the great Arctic capital, for final two nights. Tromsø is one of the world's most famous places for spotting the Northern Lights and the city has a bustling centre with an impressive collection of quality restaurants, bars and cafes.
Day 1: Journey to the Icehotel
Fly from the UK to Kiruna via Stockholm. Transfer to ICEHOTEL Resort and check-in at Reception where you will receive your thermal clothing for the duration of your stay. We have included dinner in the ICEHOTEL Restaurant for the first night of your stay and your table is reserved and waiting! Retire to your Ice Room for perhaps the coolest overnight stay ever - and just chill out! (Sorry...couldn't resist it...)
1 night JUKKASJÄRVI - ICEHOTEL, Ice Room (HB)
Day 2: Free day for activities
Wakeup to a welcome drink of hot berry juice followed by a hot sauna and steaming shower. Your breakfast buffet is ready and waiting in ICEHOTEL Restaurant. The remainder of the day is free for you to explore your spectacular surroundings or take part in one of the pre-bookable optional excursions. Check-in to your warm room for a very comfortable overnight stay.
1 night JUKKASJÄRVI - Kaamos Hotel Room (BB)
Day 3: Crossing the Norwegian border
Following your buffet breakfast you will be transferred to Kiruna Railway station for your train journey on the Ofoten Railway across the border to Narvik in Norway. Journey time approximately 3 hours.
The Ofoten Railway is a 43 kilometre long railway that runs between Sweden and Norway; it crossing from Sweden in Norway at Riksgränsen before continuing into Norway to the port of Narvik. The beautiful train journey is a hidden gem in Northern Norway, and is becoming increasingly popular among travellers, especially those who enjoy unique railway journeys.
1 night NARVIK - Scandic Hotel Narvik (BB)
Day 4: Scenic bus journey to Tromsø
Mid-day departure by local bus for your wonderful journey northwards towards the great Arctic capital itself - Tromsø. Duration of bus journey approximately 4.5 hours.
2 nights TROMSØ - Scandic Ishavshotell (BB)
Day 5: Exploring Tromsø
A full day to explore Tromsø. Luckily much of the city’s old wooden architecture is preserved and contrasts well with the modern Arctic Cathedral, and you will find a busy centre of shops, restaurants, cafes and bars. Well worth a visit is Polaria, an Arctic themed experience centre with the fascinating Ivo Caprino film ‘Svalbard - Arctic Wilderness’ and the Polar Museum which provides an insight into how polar explorers of yesterday and today really were/are amongst the most daring and adventurous men and women on the planet! Alternatively, why not join one of our optional outdoor activities? Explore your magnificent surroundings by dog sled or snowmobile (Jan-Mar); learn more about the Sámi culture or join an amazing scenic sea eagle safari to see these glorious creatures in their natural habitat (Nov-Mar).

CHASING THE NORTHERN LIGHTS WITH KJETIL SKOGLI from Tromsø
Description: Kjetil is the Northern Lights chaser who chased and found the Northern Lights for Joanna Lumley during her trip to Tromsø for the BBC. He specializes in small group trips (maximum 7 people) which makes it nice and easy to jump in and out of his mini-van at any given opportunity and, if necessary, head off to Finland in search of them! Of course, the smaller the group the more time he has to spend helping individuals with their own camera settings which is rather important if taking your own photographic evidence is an important part of your trip. Kjetil can be rather relentless so this trip is for those who are happy to be out for a lengthy period of time, are steady on their feet i.e. able to do night-time walking over uneven ground carrying photographic equipment and who love the thrill of the chase. The trip departs from outside the Radisson BLU Hotel at 1900 and has a duration of 6-8 hours - sometimes longer if necessary..... Transportation is by Peugeot Expert Tepee mini-van or similar which comortably seats 7 passengers (the maximum number Kjetil carries for each excursion). Distance travelled can be 150 kms or more one-way, depending on the cloud/weather conditions but the length of the tour is not the main thing if there is a chance of clear skies somewhere! The trip includes transportation, a woven Northern Lights Chaser badge to put on your clothes, coffee/tea, sweet snacks and a thermal suit if you need one.
Operates: Daily, 23 September to 15 March
Duration: 6-8 hours, departs at 1900

SEA BIRDS, CULTURE AND SCENERY TOUR BY RIB BOAT from Tromsø
Description: We pick you up in Tromsø by bus and drive to our local community Kvaløyvågen. During the drive you can sit back, relax and enjoy the beautiful coastal scenery while our expert guide informs you about the adventure that awaits and what to look for once you are on the boat.
This is a great opportunity to see our local village which has survived on fishing and farming for several generations, and also to hear about the coastal culture. Our small community with 270 inhabitants has a local fish factory that is 100 years old, and the fish racks and the small fishing boats will give you an insight into how people have lived their lives here. Midway through our tour we will go ashore on the small island; Gåsvær, a small island with a white traditional church that was founded and built by the local community. We have been allowed access inside, and you will be able to see for yourself what a traditional church of these parts looks like. We will also enjoy a warm cup of coffee/tea on the church steps while telling you about the culture and history of the island and surrounding area.
This tour is recommended for nature photographers, bird watchers and people that love to see the rural coastal landscape and we want you to keep your eyes open for all the wildlife that can be found in the area; such as white-tailed eagles, golden eagles, king eider, shags, guillemots and little auks. We also have a big population of seals in our area and from time to time we see them pop their heads out from the water to look at us.
You will be provided with an extra layer of clothing and survival suits before the tour. Small group activity - maximum 12 people per RIB boat, total of 30 people per tour.
Operates: 1 November - 31 March
Duration: Approximately 5 hours including transfers
Price: £120 per person
Price includes: Transfers, guided bus tour and RIB boat safari, thermal outer clothing, coffee/tea and biscuits.
Click here for further important information about RIB boat safaris.
What sort of clothing will I need?
During your stay at the Icehotel warm boots, a snowsuit, mittens and balaclava are included for the duration of your stay.
However, as a rule of thumb for any Arctic winter holiday, we would strongly recommend the layering principal (base, mid, outer) with man-made thermal fibres or wool. In our opinion wool is definitely best, and merino wool is soft and cosy and certainly a good investment. A good, waterproof outdoor jacket is essential, and also over trousers are a bonus if you have them. Wool socks (we wouldn't wear anything else here), perhaps a couple of pairs, and good hiking boots or snow boots are very important. Gloves, scarf, hat and you're raring to go!
If you're doing optional excursions like dog-sledding, snowshoeing, and Aurora hunting activities you will be provided with thermal overalls to ensure you are warm and cosy during extended periods outdoors.
