Copenhagen is as much a treat for the eyes, as for your mind and taste buds. Arguably the coolest city in the Nordic region, Copenhagen is also often ranked as the happiest city in the world, as well as being dubbed the gastronomic heart of Scandinavia.
Revisit childhood memories with a trip to Tivoli Gardens, the place that was said to inspire Walt Disney. Enjoy the nostalgia of vintage rides and a firework procession if you happen to be visiting at the weekend. With a plethora of other things to see and do in Denmark's capital city, from canal tours to art museums, from gourmet cuisine to the much photographed Nyhavn, there's no doubt you'll leave wanting to return.
As a delightful contrast you will spend the second half of your holiday indulging in the luxury of a Danish castle, set within beautiful grounds and just a short walk or cycle from the coast. Your castle hotel offers you style and elegance in the comfort of a countryside setting. Exclusive without being pompous, relaxing without being tiresome and most definitely charming and delicious! Kokkedal Slot Copenhagen is the perfect place to enjoy gourmet food and unwind after the buzz of a bustling city...
Day 1 - Arrive Copenhagen
Fly from UK to Copenhagen Airport. Transfer by train from airport to 71 Nyhavn, a city hotel located by the colourful waterfront, Copenhagen's most well-loved attraction.
2 nights COPENHAGEN - 71 Nyhavn
Day 2 - Explore the city's art & cuisine
Enjoy a full day exploring what this thriving city has to offer. The city's good looks are also intrinsically linked to the famed Danish flair for design, with its industrial-chic bars, striking Black Diamond Library, Opera House and Design museum all waiting to be explored. To appease your appetite are a wide variety of restaurants to choose between, whether you're looking for gourmet food or strolling around the central food market. For a deeper exploration of Danish cuisine why not join a food tour? (See excursion tab for more details).
Day 3 - Arrive Kokkedal Slot (Castle)
After breakfast take the short train ride northwards, along Denmark's beautiful eastern coast with its beautiful, exclusive summer homes, to Kokkedal Slot, where you will spend the next two nights of your holiday. The castle has lovely grounds which you can explore on foot or by bicycle (available from the hotel) before relaxing and enjoying a delicious 3-course gourmet dinner in the cellar restaurant. The castle also has a beautiful spa for those who would like to really indulge!
2 nights KOKKEDAL - Kokkedal Slot Copenhagen
Day 4 - Louisiana Sculpture Park & Shakespeare's Castle
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before exploring your locality. The beauty of Denmark is that being so small and neat so much is accessible! We definitely recommend using your Copenhagen Card to hop on the train to nearby Louisiana Sculpture Park, a wonderful art museum housing a succession of international artists, including our home-grown Henry Moore. The museum has a good restaurant and lovely gardens. We also suggest visiting Helsingør, well-known for Kronborg Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and where William Shakespeare's play, Hamlet, is performed annually in its courtyard since 1937.
Again, it is also possible to hire a free bicycle at Kokkedal Slot, ideal for exploring the surrounding nature.
