This holiday in Norway combines the classic Oslo to Bergen rail journey with the picturesque town of Voss, overlooking Lake Vang.
Voss is situated between the two great fjords Sognefjord and Hardangerfjord overlooked by and amongst snowy mountain tops, valleys and forests, rivers and waterfalls. The village itself overlooks Lake Vang and is actually quite large with a mixture of old and new. Whilst Voss is an excellent destination for tourists it is still a living community with a good selection of shops, cafes, restaurants and local businesses and is an excellent centre for those wishing to explore using the public transport system.
The base station for the Hangursbanen Cable Car is within walking distance of the town centre and from here you take the cable car up to the top of Mt Hangur (660m above sea level) where the café offers a panoramic view of Vossevangen and the surrounding mountains. The restaurant on Mt Hangur is the starting point for a number of way-marked routes and mountain walks in excellent hiking terrain.
Voss's new cultural centre is located in beautiful surroundings by Lake Vangsnatnet, adjacent to the railway station. Attractions include a panoramic film of Voss and art exhibitions and is home to the Tourist Information Office, where you will find walking maps and further information regarding things to see and do.

The hotel has a lovely restaurant called Kitchen and Table and an area called the Living Room both of which are, as the names suggest, places to relax with good food, either a glass of wine, a cup of tea or just with other people or perhaps a good book - the whole point is that you should feel at home! Who is this holiday suitable for?
Everyone! It especially suits those who like history, culture and nature as you have three wonderful, contrasting places to explore - with an impressive collection of museums between them and some of western Norway's most spectacular scenery.
Will I be able to get something to eat and drink on the train?
Absolutely, though the snacks available are very simple. Travelling in Komfort Class you will be provided with unlimited tea/coffee for the journey and we recommend you buy your own snacks in Oslo before departure to eat along the way. If you would like us to organise a meal for you on the train (we can pre-book something more substantial - similar to a generous airline meal) then let us know. Prices start at around £15 per person (now you can see why we recommend buying your own snacks beforehand...!).
